{joyful about}

As all-important as fashion is, I've been wanting to do a few more posts on things that mean a lot to me, and the things that bring me joy. So, today I thought I'd put up my first "joyful about" post on the things that bring me joy!

First up...flowers!!! The weather seems like it may finally be rounding the corner towards spring, but the last couple weeks have sure been dragging winter out. (hence the necessity of some florals in my life). Trader Joes has the best flower choices, and I may or may not have been tempted by their bright colors the past two trips getting groceries. But seeing them brighten up the apartment has definitely brought me some happiness every day. It's really amazing what some green can do to a place!

Second (and most important) source of my joy has been getting more involved in scripture and my church here in NYC. I had been feeling like I really wasn't making God a priority in my life recently, but am happy to say that has been changing! Since starting a new devotional system (I get them sent to my email through Proverbs 31 Ministries, and am really liking them!), and trying to get more involved in my local church (Hillsong) I've seen my spirits raise exponentially. Just having a community around you and really making time with God a priority has an amazing way of making life so much more joy-filled!

Last and definitely least (just kidding) of the three is my suite-mate Jule, who has brought so much silliness and joy into my life! I cannot be thankful enough for all three of my roommates, and feel so blessed that I get to share my freshman year with them. Whether its taking endless photos of me for the blog, putting up with my rants about school, or always being down to break out into song with me, I really couldn't ask for a better chica to spend entirely too much time with. Shoutout to being just as crazy as me, and to just being your walking-dead and unicorn obsessed self! Love ya, boo <3

{white out}

jeans: urban outfitters (similar here) // sweater: zara (similar here) // scarf: forever 21 (similar here)
This wall is one of my favorite ones to use as a backdrop in the city, there's just something about a plain white brick wall that I adore! I love the all-white look that's so popular right now--gotta love how fashion makes rules just to break them ;) No white after labor day is loooong gone. This week has been a bit rainy, but nothing a trip to chick-fil-a tonight can't fix! Have a fabulous weekend, and I'll post again on Monday evening <3

{no sleep till brooklyn}

purse: urban outfitters (here) // blanket scarf: zara (similar here) // sweater: h&m (similar here) // shoes: nike (here)

This Saturday was one of those beautiful days--where you just have to thank God you're alive and enjoying it! The above-average temperatures called for celebratory pizza, which we fulfilled by visiting DUMBO, Brooklyn and eating at Juliannas with a couple friends from NYU. I kept it simple and casual for a day of walking around--I was extra thankful for my leggings, nikes, and snuggly blanket scarf when we ended up walking back into Manhattan via the Brooklyn Bridge (at sunset! so gorgeous). Hope your Tuesday is lovely, and remember,
"make today count, you'll never get it back!" <3

{current favorites}

gooooodmorning everyone! Today I thought I'd change it up a bit, and share a few of my favorite things! Now I have, "my favorite things" from The Sound of Music stuck in my head, though it is one of my favorite songs so I suppose I can't complain. (my roommates may when I sing it for the rest of the day though!).  I chose some of my current faves to share with you all--a hand lotion from when I worked at Francesca's, the amazing Rocksbox set I just received (use my code: thestylegenrexoxo for one free month!), and my all-time favorite perfume from Anthropologie!

First up is this fantastic coconut-mango hand cream--seriously, best stuff ever. Not only is it super hydrating, but its also very light and the perfect mixture of sweet and fruity. I  have the perfume in the same scent too, though I must say the lotion is still my favorite! You can buy the hand lotion here, the perfume here, and a candle here!

Rocksbox has been something I've seen (and been intrigued about) on instagram for awhile, so when they reached out to me to try them out I of course said yes! And I must say, my first box totally lived up to the hype! The company charges a monthly fee for their service, which is sending three pieces of hand-picked jewelry for you to borrow as long as you'd like. Once you're done with them, you simply send the jewelry back (in the same package with a pre-paid return label--praise) and get three new pieces! My favorite one they sent was the Kendra Scott necklace--though the ring came in a close second! You can check them out here, and don't forget to use the code: thestylegenrexoxo for your first month free!

Last but not least is this amazing vanilla perfume that I get from anthropologie. I originally got myself a bottle when I bought one of my best friends the perfume as part of a birthday gift, but we've both been hooked ever since! I'm not kidding when I say you will get tons of compliments--who can resist vanilla!? It may seem a bit strong at first, but it's much lighter than it smells, I promise! You can go grab one at your local anthro or find it online here.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday, and don't forget,

{fluffy at the met}

jacket: topshop (similar here) // hat: nyc vendor (I like this one too) // boots: dsw (similar here) // sweater: thrifted (very similar here)
Good morning everyone! Hope your president's day weekends were wonderful, and everyone got to take a bit of a breather from their crazy lives (if only for a day!) I spent my holiday running (by running I mean riding a bus) around Manhattan and visiting the Jacqueline de Ribes exhibit at the Met. If you're live near or plan on visiting the city, I would definitely recommend visiting--it was filled with all of her amazing clothes and designs! The slight dusting of snow called for stealing my suite mate's fluffy coat and pulling on a puffball hat, but I managed to make it through the cold day with the help of a mocha ;)

{blue & pink}

top: Francesca's (another chambray top I love here) // skirt: forever 21 (similar here) // coat: thrifted (similar here)
Happy President's Day/day after Valentine's! Hope everyone got to spend some time with somebody they loved (be it friend or that special someone), and hope everyone ate whatever they wanted! (I want for about 3 cups of red-velvet puppy chow) Enjoy your holiday <3

{valentines day dressing}

Even if you're lacking a special someone to hang with on Valentines Day this year, (all the single ladies, anyone?) it's still fun to get dressed up and go out with your girls! Regardless, here are some fun dresses for the day of amore if your having a hard time finding that perfect outfit! My favorites are the one with a petal print & the light pink, but anything lacy is usually a safe bet too. Shop them below, and hope your valentines day is full of <3 <3 <3

{flare jeans & a vintage scarf}

jeans: dittos (here) // shirt: urban outfitters (similar here) // scarf: vintage (similar here)
After making the trip into Williamsburg (the second weekend in a row) for rainbow bagels (a very real and delicious thing), Jules and I snapped some fun photos in front of this cool boarded-up abandoned house. Finally got to pull out this vintage silk scarf I got in paris last year too, which was a plus!

{polka dot blues}

bracelet: alex & ani (here) // pants: zara (similar here) // shirt: zara (similar here) // lipstick: kat von d "homegirl" (here)
How super fun and anthropologie-esque is this concrete wall?! My roommates and I made the trip into Brooklyn this weekend to visit a vintage store owned by one of my suite mate's professors, and just explore the Williamsburg area a bit more! We attempted to go down to the waterfront, but got so distracted taking photos at the wall that we were entirely too frozen to go down to the windy waterfront! (insert fries and milkshakes here). It was super nice to be able to spend a few hours with my lovely roommates! As for the outfit, I got these pants on sale at zara for $10 (yes, $10!) dollars, so definitely go check out your local store to shop the great sale they're having! Also in love with this dark Kat Von D lipstick--perfect for winter!
