{school bus}

top: loft (similar here) // espadrilles: (similar here & here) // pants: gap (similar here)
The craziness of the last couple weeks of the semester has officially started, so apologies in advance if I fall behind on posting! It feels like this year has absolutely flown by, and I'm starting to get sad about leaving new york and all its wonderful people in two weeks. Ironic that these pictures are taken in front of school busses when I'm just about to leave school, right? The street was closed off for the day, so it was nice and calm for a photo shoot! These are my go-to pants--the loose "paper-bag" fit is always comfy and flattering (the best combo). Pairing the pants with this tailored loft shirt I stole from my mama gave the outfit a bit of a more polished look, but the messy bun and espadrille wedges still kept it casual and fun.

trending: pleated midi skirts

// 1. ZARA METALLIC HERE ($69.90) //
// 2. MANGO RED HERE ($79.99) //
// 3. ASOS COLORFUL STRIPE HERE ($59) //
// 4. TOPSHOP NUETRAL STRIPE HERE ($105) //
// 5. MANGO NUDE HERE ($79.99) //

I decided to make this trend board after seeing that ahmaaazing gold skirt from zara, and falling head over heels for it! One of my favorite illustrators/style icons jenny walton (you can stalk her here) is always styling her pleated metallic mini in the most fabulous ways (though I must say I am in full support of pretty much any outfit she wears). Hope you guys like my picks, and let me know which skirt is your favorite!

{ditzy}

dress: zara (similar here and here) // button down: gap (similar here
Sorry this post is going up so late today, I'm writing it on the bus back home to VA so the internet is rather slow. We got passover off at school, so no friday classes means I can take the weekend to visit home, yay! It's been sooo nice to be able to start wearing spring-y dresses again--thank goodness for warmer weather, right?  I always try to layer dresses with white button down shirts, since if it works that gives you a whole other outfit!

1 year blog-iversary!

If you couldn't tell from the unnecessarily enormous (just kidding, it was completely necessary) gold "1" balloon in every photo, The Style Genre turns one year old today! It's so crazy to think I've been doing this bloggin' thing for a whole year--it feels like just yesterday that I was writing my first blog post! Ever since starting college at the Fashion Institute of Technology, I've been extra grateful that I have this blog as a creative outlet and hobby--no grades or criteria attached to this sucker (woo!). Grateful for my faith which has guided me through my first year of college, and thankful for all the wonderful people who have supported me! And of course sending a giant thank you hug to you guys for following me along through it all--couldn't do it with out ya!

Special shoutout to my main photographer ladies Jules, Rachel, Audra, Kelly, and the madre for putting up with my constant quest to get the perfect shot!

Also thanks to my lovely roomies and fellow bloggers who put up with my weirdness all year <3

{art deco}

bag: vintage coach (similar here) // skirt: francescas (similar here and here) // turtleneck: zara (similar here) // shoes: bcbg (similar here
Gotta say I'm not too enthusiastic for Monday mornings--they always seem to sneak up on ya! Hopefully if I get enough caffeinated tea in me I'll be able to make it into Italian class without falling asleep on the way. It's been super cold here in NYC, and our 70 degree weather about a week ago makes todays chilly-ness a bit harder to accept! I've been keeping my turtlenecks on rotation, like the black one I'm wearing here (props to zara for making the perfect turtleneck!). Even though I hadn't pulled out this skirt for a while, when I put it on I fell in love with the art deco feel of the sequins and embroidery all over again. Nothing like a little gold sparkle to brighten up your day, right?

{red raincoat}

 shoes: thrifted (similar here & here) // raincoat: thrifted (similar here & here) // dress: urban outfitters (similar here) // scarf: vintage (similar here and here)
It's Friday!! Woohoo! For me that means my morning consists of fabric swatching, yoga, and hitting up trader joes--a nice break from my usual hectic weekday schedule! I wore this outfit last weekend when Jules and I finally got around to visiting the Whitney museum (which is fantastic!) It was a bit rainy out, so I decided to pair my red raincoat with a red lip and call it a day! Also, this scarf is super versatile--I wore it as a necktie in this post too.

Have I learned anything in photoshop yet? My current grade in class may not be on point, but at least I got to spend entirely too much time making this! Full disclosure: the sandals and bag are wayyy out of my price range, but a girl can dream, right? I'm thinking that Zara top might just find a home in my closet though...

{yin & yang}

Me: sweater: h&m (similar here) // skirt: forever 21 (similar here) // boots: steve madden (similar here) // bag: coach (similar here) // Jules: sweater: zara (similar here) // jeans: (similar here) // shoes: converse (love these pink ones here)
Sunday mornings are just the best right?! Today's a lot windier and colder than it was yesterday, but I'm snuggled up in bed and couldn't care less! Since Jules is usually my designated photographer, it was so much fun to take some pictures with her in them! I love how our outfits are such opposites--our friend Alex commented that we looked like yin and yang ;). HUGE shoutout to Henrietta of The Real H.B. Media for taking these, it was so much fun collaborating and her photography skills are on point!
